November 23, 2012 - Janet DelTurco
As I sit here at the computer and look outside at the grey skies, drizzly rain, and trees whipping in the wind, I am thankful that I am finished outside for the year. Or at least as finished as I will be. As usual I just need "one more day" to get everything done, but that's the way it always is for me. I do have to get the hose drained and put away yet, but this is definitely not the day to do that. I pruned back the raspberry canes a couple of days ago while it was warm and sunny, and now all the containers are full and waiting for their final journey to the compost facility. What a blessing that is, and how I hope it survives the budget cuts. Today I decorated my garden tree, a small tree I set up on the inside porch where my hibiscus, rosemary, bay, chives, mandevilla, cactus etc. winter over. It is a mix of manufactured garden-thrmed decorations and natural things from the garden. I wrote a column about the hows and whats, and that will be in the paper next Friday.
