Cable news networks to join Tv grids
March 4, 2013 - Rob Weaver
Last month, a reader asked whether we could add cable news networks to the TV programming guides published daily and in the weekly TV Update.
Changes to the grid-like TV listings box on the daily comic page and TV booklet aren’t taken lightly. TV viewers tend to be a loyal, and particular. Adding CNN, Fox News MSNBC to the TV listings would require three other networks to be dropped. So, using a pair of online polls, I asked other readers for input.
When asked “Should cable news networks Fox News, CNN and MSNBC be added to our daily TV listings?” the response was overwhelming: 73 percent or respondents said “yes.”
But, which three existing networks should go? That was the basis for the second poll. I picked eight networks for possible exclusion, offerings that typically do not broadcast movies, but instead offer reruns of TV series or features that repeat daily.
Even with eight choices, Golf received a majority of the votes — 51 percent. Oxygen (picked by 23 percent) and E! (12 percent) also were edged out. Hallmark was a close fourth at 9 percent. Each of the four others — HGTV, TLC, A&E AND TVLand — received 1-2 percent of the votes.
Watch for the changes in an upcoming TV Update and the daily grids on the comic pages.
