E. Gordon Gee Speaks Again

May 31, 2013 - Al Stephenson
He has to be an intelligent man. Doesn't he? You cannot be a university President and not be a very learned person. Right? If The Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee is indeed an intelligent, learned man then why does he say some of the things he does? I have yet to figure it out.

This is the man that considered a tied football game one of the greatest victories in the school's history. Remember that one? He has a history of saying things that makes the rest of the world look at him and wonder what exactly is wrong with the man. He was at it again recently when he ripped on Notre Dame and the Catholic religion, the University of Louisville and the entire SEC. I don't want, nor feel the need to tell you what he said. You have read his comments and presumably had the same reaction that I did. Just what the heck is the man thinking?

His defense, you ask? He was trying to be funny. I got news for you Mr. Gee. If you want to be funny, just show up. Your Orville Redenbacher appearance will be funny enough.

Now it appears the Board of Trustees has heard enough. They have sent a letter to Gee suggesting that one more stupid oral outburst could result in his firing. It won't be Jim Tressel doing the firing either.

The view from my seat suggests that it's too bad that the situation has come to this, but the Board of Trustees are correct in their concern. When Ohio State fans refer to the man as E. Gordon Geek, what do you think the rest of the world is thinking?

Will OSU fans ever realize they are just a part of the money machine? First Tressel, now Gee...big time leaders "with integrity". But in the end, the money machine chews them up and spits them out as it waits for the next victim of the money machine.
