June 30, 2008 - Janet DelTurco
This is a trial run for blogging! My computer skills are minimal, but this process seems straightforward, and I hope I will be able to supplement my weekly garden column with some extra information (or opinions). This is a good year for flowers and vegetables; the summer temperatures and copious rainfall without too much drying wind are providing the best conditions in the garden. The corn is well over knee-high, the potatoes concentrating on below-ground growth, and the beans are flowering with every indication of a bumper crop. I am pretty sure that the US Customs does not monitor the A-T blogs, so I will reveal that I smuggled in some Wisley Scarlet Runner pole bean seeds when I came back from England last September. They are my favorite beans, and are growing well in spite of their criminal history. There's plenty to do in the garden right now, but I have some tendon trouble in my ankle, and the brace I am wearing slows me down somewhat, so at the moment my watchword is "do what I write about, not what I do". More later.
