Sometimes You Get Lucky
July 26, 2014 - Al Stephenson
Today is a special day in our household. Thirty-four years ago my wife Anita and I tied the knot. I asked and she said yes. The rest is history. A beautiful and wonderful history. No one needs to tell me how lucky I am.
One would think that in 34 years a large number of disagreements would occur in a marriage. In our case that is incorrect. We have had two minor spats in that time and I recall both of them vividly. They passed quickly. We have two wonderful children who have never seen mom and dad fight. That is because we don't. Perhaps I am partially responsible for that fact, but truth be known - it is my wife that is just an outstanding human being.
I remember a number of years ago when my wife told me she was going to go to confession. My response, "what for?" Seriously there was nothing for her to confess to, at least not in my mind.
My mother was the best mom a person could have. No one will ever convince me otherwise. She was a kind and compassionate person, very much like my wife. I have been doubly blessed and wanted to take this opportunity to let everyone know it.
The view from my seat suggests that I was a lucky man when Anita agreed to be by my side for the rest of my life. Thanks honey for being the best wife a man could ever hope for.
