The Seneca County Park District is preparing for our major fund-raiser of the year, the Oktober Fest at Garlo Nature Preserve on the first Sunday of October. This will be the fourth year, and we were blessed with wonderful weather for the past three, so are hopeful. There will be a German band, lots of German food, the popular displays by "Back to the Wild", a Farmers' Market, drumming by Native Americans, a silent auction, narrated wagon rides round the preserve and much more. I am involved on the food committee ( with a major in sauerkraut) and the publicity committee. Garlo is a beautiful place to visit, with trails, a large lake, ponds with observation decks and plenty of benches. There is also a beautiful butterfly garden created and maintained by Jim Bailey, which is at its best right now. A good trip for gardeners, and does not take much gas. Just go south through Bloomville on Rt.19 and straight on. If you get to Rt.6 you have gone too far.
