TU v. GVSU women update
December 4, 2008 - Zach Baker
Coming to you live from the Gillmor Center, with a GLIAC double header.
Tiffin women start out with a 7-2 lead, then go so cold they make the Russian Boxer from Rocky IV appear jovial. The Dragons go more than 10 minutes without scoring, missing about 15 consecutive shots from the floor. TU's defense keeps it close against Grand Valley State, but the Lakers eventually pull ahead by 10 points.
As I write this, we are at the half; the Dragons trail 28-21. Good defense is keeping TU in it. I can't imagine them shooting so poorly after the break. After being picked last in the league, a win in their first game would be great for the Dragons.
GVSU leads, 41-26 with 14:23 left. TU's shooting continues to be a problem, while the Lakers have warmed up, particularly from 3-point range. Ooh, Kara Crawford just drained another one. Jasmine Padin has hit a couple of 3's.
- With less than 10 minutes left, GVSU has extended its lead to 52-33. It's been a great second half for the Lakers, who are not giving the Dragons anything easy, while capitalizing on their own offensive chances.
- With 418 left, TU has goneon a run and cut the lead to 61-51, behind a relentless effort from Megan Fletcher. Fletcher has 21 points, 15 coming in the second half.
- With 1:19 left, it's 63-53 GVSU ... looks like TU will fall. But it has proven it can compete at this level. If it finishes last in the GLIAC, I'll be stunned.
-Final: GVSU 66, TU 55
Men's game to follow.
