TU women v. Findlay updates

January 22, 2009 - Zach Baker

- TU's Megan Fletcher and Leanne Lucius were each honored before the game for reaching 1,000 points in their respective careers. Each reached the mark while on the road.

-TU rallied from an early 7-2 deficit to take a 9-7 lead, and is now tied with the Oilers at 9 with 14:01 left in the half. TU's inside game, particularly Lucius, look to be strong tonight.

-With 8:04 left, Findlay leads, 23-19. Findlay utilized a strong inside game to get to the foul line. The Oilers haven't shot well from there, but have connected on enough (6-of-11) to stay ahead.

-Led by Kylene Spiegel's 11 points, TU has grabbed a 29-25 lead with 4:00 left. Spiegel has been all over the floor, and is six points from 1,000 for her career.

-At the half, Tiffin leads, 33-30. Findlay's had little trouble getting to the paint, or the line. Problem is, the Oilers  can't convert either point-blank shots or free throws. They are just 6 of 17 from the line. Maggie Gompers (who has a great shot) leads UF with eight points.

Jessica Vorst has eight boards already for Findlay, which has only turned the ball over twice.

Spiegel's 11 points leads the Dragons, who are just 3 of 8 from the foul line. Fletcher has seven points, while Lucius leads all players with nine boards.

- Alexis Karel erupted for eight points in the first four minutes of the second half, allowing TU's lead to get as large as a dozen. UF rallied, and it's 46-40 with 14:45 left.

-With 11:40 left, TU is clinging to a 51-46 lead. But Vorst, who has been spectacular, is at the line shooting two. Vorst has 13 points and 10 boards.

- With 9:55 remaining, TU leads, 53-48. a layup by TU's Mandy Jaeb moments ago helped keep the Oilers at bay.

-It's getting intense. UF just made it 61-60 on a free throw by Audra Mihalic with 4:35 left. But TU's defense is hanging tough, just forcing a shot clock violation.

- Findlay leads 63-60 (2:40) after a Gompers layup. Megan Fletcher just threw a pass to Lucius, but Lucius had moved, causing a turnover.

-Vorst just drained a shot, with a Findlay foul coming afterwards. Holly Focke missed the first of a 1 and 1, and now it's 66-60 UF with 1:35 left.

Final was Findlay 72, TU 63. Vorst finished with 21 points, 14 boards. Spiegel had 17 for TU.
