TU women v. Northwood
February 19, 2009 - Zach Baker
Kylene Spiegel has hit a pair of 3's from the left wing, which is keeping Tiffin close to Northwood. The Dragons trail, 10-8, at the 14:17 mark of the first half.
- Northwood went on a 9-2 run, punctuated by a Karlie Leroy basket to lead, 19-12 with 9:21 left. Tiffin missed five consecutive shots from the floor during the run.
-TU's offense has been very inconsistent so far, and its allowed Northwood to expand its lead to 26-15 with 4:50 remaining.
Mandy Jaeb acored five points in the last two minutes, and the Dragons go to the half trailing 33-24. Spiegel leads TU with nine points, while Northwood's Jodi Ostergren leads all scorers with 10 points.
-Holly Focke's layup at the 14:49 mark makes it 42-35 Northwood. TU got the deficit down to 37-33, but Northwood's Megan Starnes was fouled in the act of a 3, and made her foul shots.
- Megan Fletcher's first points of the game -- on a layup-- have brought the Dragons to within three, 42-39. 12:42 left.
-An unanswered 3 and layup by Starnes have given the Timberwolves a 49-40 edge with 9:18 left. Starnes has 10 points.
-A three point play by Fletcher has made it 52-47 with 4:37 left. Northwood had upped its lead to 52-40 moments ago, but you learn after a while to expect a late Dragon surge. Whether TU can sustain it and pull an upset is yet to be seen.
- TU has cut the lead to 56-54. Jaeb had a chance to tie the game moments ago, but missed the front end of a 1 and 1.
-With the game at 57-54, Jaeb tried to drive, but her shot was off. Starnes rebounded and was fouled, and made both foul shots. It's 59-54, with 33 seconds left. TU coach Pam Oswald takes time.
Focke couldn't get the ball in. 5-second violation. Looks bleak.
-Sarah Glowacki splits a pair, then the Dragons can't convert on the other end. Looks like it's over.
