Finally. After that long, cold winter we had three days in a row of perfect spring weather. Sunny and sixties, what more could a gardener ask? I got outside for a good part of each day, and cleaned up the flower beds. It's a mystery where all that stuff comes from. I cleaned up in the fall, at least I thought I did, but there was a cover of sticks, leaves and assorted "stuff" to the tune of six bins full to be hauled out to the blessed city facility. I don't know what I would do if that closed, it is really a wonderful service by the city. Plus I cut down all five of my ornamental grasses too. That is a horrible job, but all winter the grasses are so beautiful, especially when loaded with snow, that it is worth the work in the spring to get them ready for another year. Yesterday was s sad day as I took my sick miniature poodle to the vet, and found that he has a tumor. He has lost all bowel control and will not eat very much, and so will have to be put to sleep. I am taking a few days to say goodbye, but early next week he will have to go. Charlie is 14 years old, and came from the shelter ten years ago, so I will really miss him. And so will Penny, my fox terrier.
