Tiffin Tomorrow, tomorrow

July 13, 2009 - Rob Weaver
Monday, July 13, 5:14 p.m.

There are some crucial issues that affect Tiffin-are residents which are, let's face it, largely out of our control. The future of health care. Stimulus spending. The national debt. Automobile making in America. Sasha Cohen.

But there is something you can influence, and that's the future of Tiffin. The Tiffin Tomorrow steering committee plans a meeting for 6-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at The National Theatre at The Ritz.

“This meeting on Tuesday will allow you to see an update of where the plan is heading. KKG will bring pictures and drawings of what downtown Tiffin and the Riverfront area will begin to look like as we move from planning to implementation,” reads the invitation. “We need your help. Please attend this short meeting, and help direct us down the right paths as we decided what Tiffin Tomorrow will look like.”

Please note several things.

First, while the focus is on downtown, the effort will have an impact felt throughout the greater Tiffin area.

Second, this is not just another program to spruce up the city streetscape. Sure, storefront facades and curb appeal are important (and you can help with that 8 a.m.-noon this Saturday). But what happens inside buildings downtown -- including the upper floors -- is even more significant.

Third, the plan being developed isn't another master plan for downtown Tiffin like the ones I found in my desk when I was a government reporter here in the mid-1980s. Oh, there are similarities; that 1964 master plan and subsequent updates all sought to incorporate the riverfront and architechural aspects in a vision for downtown. But the effort now also includes steps for following through. Building enthusiastic partners for implementation of the vision is a focus of Tiffin Tomorrow.

Want to join that effort? Then I'll see you in Tiffin. Tomorrow.
