Definitely Indefinite

December 29, 2009 - Al Stephenson
The word has taken on a life of its own. Tiger Woods followed up his car accident, accusations of infidelity on a level comparable to Wilt the Stilt, and his disappearance from public view with these words. "I am taking an indefinite leave of absence from professional golf."

The ripple effect of those words will be enormous. He has cost himself, his sponsors and his fellow competitors huge amounts of money, not to mention the fact that his marriage may very well be over. He will golf again, of that I have no doubt. When? Who knows. For now we wait, though not exactly with bated breath.

Urban Meyer was next. A day after he surprised the college football world by resigning his position as coach of the mighty Florida Gators, he changed his mind and decided to take an indefinite leave of absence. How long will that be? Who knows. For now we wait, though... (see above).

The latest indefinite is the suspension of Texas Tech coach Mike Leach who will not (maybe, a temporary injunction has been filed) coach the Red Raiders in the Alamo Bowl. He has been accused of locking a player (Adam James, son of former NFLer Craig James) in a room of some sort for having a concussion and not being able to practice. What????

This one is a little wacky, but then so are the other stories. I am having trouble following all this craziness.

The view from my seat therefore suggests that I am going to take an indefinite leave of absence from watching the sporting world. Ho hum, Ho hum, Ho hum....

OK, that's long enough. These things are way too much fun to not follow them!
