TV Sports Junkies
January 8, 2010 - Al Stephenson
It's a down period for sports nuts who like to watch games on TV. The World Series is over and for many of us we have to wait much too long to get the bad taste of the Yankees winning again out of our mouths.
The college football season is over. A lot of great games took place in this bowl season, but the title game left us a little disappointed. When Texas quarterback Colt McCoy left the game after the Longhorns first offensive series with a shoulder injury, the matchup that all football fans wanted to see was off. Despite the Texas comeback with freshman QB Garrett Gilbert, the game still left a little to be desired.
The NFL regular season is over as is my fantasy league. We do have the playoffs to watch but other than that the pickings are slim. College basketball is an option but the real excitement comes in March. The NBA playoffs would be a possibility but that season doesn't end until summer for crying out loud.
The PGA season got underway yesterday in the Aloha State, but it is going to be Tigerless for the time being. That will take some luster off the game. Daytona is still a few weeks away and that leaves the NHL - and that is unacceptable.
Since there is not much to watch on TV, I've decided to get away from the boredom. I'm leaving in the morning for the Sunshine State and a week of golf. This will be the first of four golf trips that I will take in 2010.
The view from my seat suggests that since there is not much in the way of sports to watch on TV then participating is a much better idea. Fortunately I have a very understanding wife that lets me take these vacations.
See you in ten days.
