Tiffin women v. Northwood
February 18, 2010 - Zach Baker
With 14:49 to go in the first half, Northwood leads Tiffin, 7-4. Dragons aren't off to a horrible start, though it should be noted Mandy Jaeb hasn't scored yet.
I have Northwood for seven turnovers. Jaeb has five points, Jessica Harris four and the Dragons lead, 16-13 at the 8:51 mark of the first half. TU has avoided the early deficit which has doomed it recently. Time will tell how crucial that is.
Jaeb has seven, Tiffin leads, 24-21 with 1:39 left. Northwood's Jodi Ostergren , a 5-11 senior forward, has scored 14 for the Timberwolves.
Stephanie Kelly's layup in the final seconds has pushed the Dragons to a 29-25 edge at halftime. Northwood, the preseason favorite in the south, has had its season dereailed by injuries(the T-Wolves have had seven season enders). As a result, coach Jeff Curtis has had to depend on a small group of players. Northwood has played just six players in the first half. Of course, TU has only played seven.
Jaeb has four steals. I hate hyperbole, but Jaeb is like an engine that never seems to run out of fuel. She's incredible.
Jaeb is taking over. She has eight of the Dragons 11 points since the break, allowing the Dragons to build a 40-29 lead. It was a 13-point lead moments ago. Northwood's turnovers are killing it.
It looks like the Dragons are starting to wear down the Timberwolves. The Dragons lead 46-31 at the 10:31 mark, but the key right now is TU gobbling up boards on both ends of the court and extending possessions.
Same score at the 9:26 mark. Harris is doing a great job of not allowing the T'Wolves into the paint. Every shot is outside, and so far, Northwood isn't hitting.
On back-to back possessions, Northwood defenders left Jaeb with space on the right wing. Whoops. Jaeb has 23. TU leads, 52-38 with 7:00 left.
Saturday, it was the Dragons who overcame a large deficit late. Today, the T'Wolves are giving it a try. TU leads, 52-45 with 5:32 left.
-With 4:44 remaining, same score. In the last few minutes, Ostergen (who has 21) and Karlie LeRoy have gotten big offensive boards and converted them to buckets. TU has taken some good shots lately in possessions, but they haven't fallen.
Tiffin has the ball and a 55-48 lead. Jaeb is heading to the line. Karlie LeRoy just fouled out. Curtis just told the official what he thought of the foul... and now Jaeb has two more free throws. Jaeb has 29. TU will win, 58-48.
