Tiffin vs. Wayne State football
September 11, 2010 - Zach Baker
With 10:17 left in the first half, Tiffin is trailing Wayne State, 21-0. Well, strike that. Stan Thornton just picked off Nate Scully and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Thornton returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown last year.
And that play pretty much summarized the way things have been going. Scully has had no time to throw, and in two such occasions put the ball up anyway and got picked. Both picks turned into Wayne State scores. It's 28-0, and it's hard to see TU coming back against a defense that hasn't given the quarterback time to throw.
Nate Scully is out and Jason Young is is at quarterback. Young is a freshman making his college debut. The change could be two things -- Scully has taken a number of hits, but it also could be that Scully has thrown some bad passes.
Young fumbles off a sack, Wayne State gets the ball, and within one play is at the TU 5.
-With Wayne State leading, 42-0, Singleton breaks for an 88-yard kick return. (2:41)
At halftime, the Dragons trail, 49-7. It has been all bad for TU but for one special teams play. Well, that and some nice Brenton Williams catches. He has five for 112 yards, but none that have led to scores. I should point out that Scully returned late in the second quarter. I would have thought he was out for the day.
-Taurean Nicholson just ran in a short-range TD. It's 49-14, 10:52 left.
-Josh Renel just scored for the third time. It's 56-14, 7:41 left third quarter.
It happened early, but TU DB Courtney Embry appeared to injure his right leg. He hasn't been back. Embry is a senior and one of the few veterans on this TU defense. It's a big loss.
With 9:08 left in the game, Wayne State leads, 63-14.
