Jason Bendekovic, HU football assistant, dies
September 27, 2010 - Zach Baker
Jason Bendekovic, a Heidelberg assistant football coach in his fifth season, has died.
Bendekovic was the team's offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. He has been at the school since 2006, Brian Cochran's final year as head coach.
He coached an offensive line that is one of the strengths of Heidelberg's offense. It includes local players Paul Dunn (Mohawk graduate) and Derek Arbogast (Calvert).
The friendly, funny Bendekovic will be missed. When I was waiting for interviews, I often stopped by his office to chat. He was a big time Steelers fan, and often gave me grief about my Browns. I can't say I knew him as well as the players or coaches, but I get the sense that everyone felt like they knew him. He was that outgoing, he was that likable.
Jason also was a young man who died way too soon. To his family, to his fellow coaches, to his players and friends, I can only say that you are in my thoughts.
The Heidelberg sideline won't be the same.
