TU men vs. Saginaw Valley
January 27, 2011 - Zach Baker
Game starts with some bad news: Travis Spahr, who had 14 boards in Saturday's win, is out with an ankle injury. Brandon Harris will start in his place.
With 14:25 to go in the half, the Cardinals lead, 9-4,having beaten the Dragons a couple of times off the dribble for layups. Both teams started the game struggling from the floor. In order for TU to win, Harris and Devin Russell have to have big games to make up for Spahr missing.
-At the 11:25 mark, TU leads, 20-15. Graessle has eight points. Finley with a stickback. He has nine.
Barlow misses a long 3, but Brian Scott runs in, grabs the ball and converts a layup. He's now 40 points from 1,000. TU leads 25-18. 8:49
Graessle drained right wing 3. He and Finley have combined for 31. TU leads, 36-24. 4:59
Graessle hits a 3 again. He has 17 and is hot as hot can be. TU leads, 39-24 with 4:01 left.
Finley and Graessle have comebined for 43 points. It's 51-30 TU at half. Crowd has been great tonight, too, with noise sticks.
One thing I didn't mention at half, TU's 26-12 advantage on the boards. Without Spahr. TU still leads, 56-37, but SVSU has only one foul called against it, TU 5.
A corner 3 by Keithan Jackson cuts TU's lead to 14 at 10:30 mark. Dragons are struggling offensively, and have slowed the game down. Graessle and Finley haven't scored in second half.
TU has gone ice cold here in the second half. It still leads by 12, but we're starting to see some of the mistakes we've seen down the stretch in other close losses. It's 59-47 with 9:27 left.
Greg Foster at the line for SVSu and misses them both. He's had a great game in dribble penetration, but not at the line. Every time he misses, he acts like he fell in a puddle. TU has recovered and pushed it lead back up to 68-49 with 7:05 to go.
With 5:23 left, Tiffin leads, 71-55. Under normal circumstances, I'd say it's over. But I've seen TU struggle down the stretch before.
With 3:23 left, TU looks headed to its second conference win in a row. The Dragons lead 77-60. Brandon Harris just made a basket with a guy draped on his left arm. Harris has six crucial points.
Tiffin wins, 84-65.
