Otterbein women at Heidelberg
February 16, 2011 - Zach Baker
C.J Cerrano starts tonight, putting three seniors in the starting lineup on senior night. Clyde grad Jenny Miller has been sick, but she's starting tonight as Heidelberg looks to get an OAC win against the 6-10 Cardinals.
Heidelberg leads early, 6-4, with 16:41 left. Phillips hit a left side 3 early on.
Heidelberg is busting it out of the gate, and is getting a ton of offensive rebounds. But so far it hasn't equaled much offense. Still, HU leads, 10-7 at the 14:00 mark of the first half.
With 8:36 to go in the half, Heidelberg leads, 17-13. Honestly, HU looks like a different team, hustling for every loose ball and pushing the action on offense. It seems like this started a week ago at Ohio Northern. So far, it hasn't led to a win, but this is the best I've seen Heidelberg play all season.
Cerrano has led a charge, with a pair of 3s from the wings which for the moment gave Heidelberg 27-24 lead. Otterbein tied things with a three point play, but Cerrano answered with another trey, then forced a jump ball of a miss. She's fired up tonight. Heidelberg leads, 30-27 at the 2:02 mark of the first half.
Heidelberg leads at the break,30-29
With 10:33 left, we're tied at 43.Sarah Esterkamp lays one up, putting Otterbein up by two Phillips answers.
With 7:21 left, Heidelberg trails, 49-47. It's been back and forth for the last several minutes.
With 4:46 left, Heidelberg trails, 57-54. Jordan Ickes stops and pops to cut the lead to 1.
Miller scores a layup at 15 second mark, making it 66-65 Cardinals. Shea McCoy just hit a huge jump shot, with three players in her face and the shot clock winding down.
Otterbein has the ball, up 1, with 15 seconds left. Should be a quick foul situation.
They didn't want to foul Kotterman, and after a quick game of keepaway, McCoy is fouled with 5.6 left. She misses the first.
McCoy makes the second. After being unable to inbound, Alberts calls time. Casey Bishop was inbounding. Look for Kathleen Phillips or Giel to launch.
Kotterman picks off Bishop's long pass, then dribbles out the clock. Game over. Otterbein wins, 65-63.
