TU men host Wayne State
January 19, 2012 - Zach Baker
Dragons trail Warriors, 15-12 with 14:15 left. Dragons at least look energetic in the early going.
Dragons trail 20-12, haven't scored in last five minutes. Cole Prophet, a Sandusky graduate, has five for the Warriors. Make that seven after a jumper and the Warriors lead 22-12. TU's Iman Johnson, who is starting for Travis Spahr, who's not playing, breaks a seven minute scoreless stretch for TU by gighting for a layup. But TU's offense is still out of sync. Karl Finley seems to be the only one who is able to make a shot. 26-16 Wayne State, 6 minutes til half.
Joe Graessle has no points so far, and usually if he doesn't score, TU's in trouble. It certainly is right now, down 31-18 with 4:51 left until half.
Dragons were down 13 at halfltime, then they had one of their patented, steal, 3, steal, dunk, steal, dunk plays. Iman Johnson has 10, Karl Finley has 20 and the Dragons lead, 51-47 with 13:18 left.
Joe Gressle has five 3s and 15 points, but a pair of turnovers led to two transition buckets for Wayne State. Warriors have tied the game at 53. 7:55 left. Michael Bouley just converts a short jumper and is fouled. He pumps his fist because he has a free throw coming. Dragons lead 72-67 with 3:42 left. Bouley also grabbed an offensive board. He has six points off the bench. 3:42 left.
Finley with 32. Grassle with 21. TU wins 83-77.
