TU women vs. Central State
February 16, 2012 - Zach Baker
Jennifer Johnston, in her second to last home game, has a pair of 3s, Central State leads Tiffin 10-8 with 13:45 left.
Tiffin leads 17-16. Iniquia Snell has six points to lead the Marauders, who look like a pretty sound team. They are 12-9 coming in.
Tiffin leads 28-23 with 4:55 left in the half. Jaeb has spent more time on the bench than usual, but still has seven. My guess is we may see more of the bench tonight, because the last thing TU coach Pam Oswald wants to have happen in a non-conference game is lose another starter. Stephanie Kelly's left wing 3 puts TU up eight at with 4 and a half minutes left.
Johnston has hit 3 3's for nine points, and the Dragons have opened up a 13-point cushion on Central State at the half, 40-27. Central State went a little cold at the end.
Finally, after four straight treys, Johnston has cooled off. But one of her shots was an airball that Kelly caught in the air and flipped up for a layup. It's been that kind of second half for TU. Lead has been as big as 9. It's 52-35 at the 14:35 mark.
Laura Lonmire has eight for Central State, but TU keeps coming. Deidra Brown was fouled going to the hoop, and has two shots coming on the other side of this media timeout. 14:10 remains, TU up by 17.
Johnston has 12 points, but Erica Mathis has seen more time than usual and has a pair of baskets for four points. She's played well, though her jumper on the last two possessions has been off. Dragons leead 63-42, as it appears to be only a matter of time now, with 8:50 remaining.
Baute with a steal and Mandy Jaeb with a fast break laup, lead is at its biggest, 65-42, with 7:49 left. Guessing we won't be seeing Jaeb, Mast and Johnston too much longer.
Jaeb takes a seat with 16 points, as the Dragons lead 71-51 with 4:51 left. Baute has eight points.
Baute has played an outstanding game, just geting an offensive board and stickback. She has a 11 points. Back-to-back 3s by Central State have made it 76-59 with 2:04 left. Another 3 makes it a 14 -point game, and with 1:53 left, Oswald calls time. 76-62.
With a reserve lineup, the Dragons have been outscored by 10 in the last few minutes, and with 40 secconds left, TU's lead is down to 13. I can't imagine Oswald wiill be happy with this turn of events, if with the game in hand.
Tiffin wins 83-66. Tie a program record with 18 wins. It's 18-6.
