Electric scooter blues
I purchased an electric scooter from Wal-Mart for some enjoyment for my son. We live off Miami Street and it is very safe to ride up and down our street. It was ridden safe and wasn’t in anyone’s yard. However, someone felt it necessary to call the police and report my son riding his scooter. An officer showed up and advised us it is not legal to ride our scooter on public property because it’s considered a recreational vehicle. Excuse me, but isn’t a bicycle or a skateboard used for recreational use? Bicycles are ridden on streets and often impede traffic. Is that safe? I was not aware that this was illegal or I would not have purchased it. We do have many concerns — crime, drugs, abuse, hunger, war to name a few! A child riding a scooter on the street where he lives wouldn’t be on that list. I understand some people have issues, perhaps with a neighbor; but communication between adults, if there is a problem, should be an answer.
