Columbian, H-L voted to win respective leagues
WILLARD — Hopewell-Loudon lost several key components from last year’s Division VI state runner-up team, but media members from north central Ohio still thought well enough of the Chieftains to vote them Midland Athletic League favorites. In the Northern Ohio League, Columbian was picked for its fourth-straight Northern Ohio League crown. Hopewell-Loudon (105 points) and Carey (99) each received half of the 14 first-place votes. The Blue Devils also qualified for the Division VI playoffs in 2007. Mohawk (82), Seneca East (68), Calvert (60), Fremont St. Joe (47), North Baltimore (25), St. Wendelin (18) rounded out the MAL balloting. Out of 21 ballots, Columbian (160 points) was picked first on 14. Fostoria (5 firsts) edged Bellevue (2) for second place, 139-136, followed by Shelby (109). Norwalk (63), Willard (61), Upper Sandusky (58) and Galion (30) completed the voting. Wynford received 11 of 12 first-place votes in the North Central Conference, with Bucyrus in second place. St.
