BASCOM — A cast of nearly 40 Hopewell-Loudon students is presenting “The Pajama Game” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the school. Set in the 1950s at a pajama factory, the musical first was performed on Broadway in 1954. Baby boomers may recognize some of the favorite songs from the show, including “Hey There,” “I’m Not at All in Love,”Steam Heat” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.” Director Deb Weaver has obtained some authentic 1950s dresses for the girls and tweed suits for the boys to recreate office attire of the Sleep-Tite Pajama Co. The plot is interwoven with workplace romances, disputes about wages and working conditions and employee-employer relationships. Modern-day workers can identify with these serious issues, but the show treats them in a light-hearted manner. Tyler Wise is cast as Vernon Hines, the “time study” man for the factory who urges the women working at rows of sewing machines to hurry.
