Calvert board grapples with operating in public
It seems the Calvert Catholic Schools Board of Trustees is struggling to figure out the role the public and press should play in its meetings. To be fair, the board is not required, such is the case for Tiffin City Schools, to host meetings in public. But I believe open meeting laws are in place for good reason. Constituents have the right to know how their boards are operating. Although I certainly prefer the Catholic meetings be public, I hope the board of trustees makes up its mind. Until the board’s direction is clear, I encourage anyone who is interested in the future of Catholic education in Tiffin to consult the Web site for Calvert Catholic Schools. Listed on the site is an executive summary of the minutes from the June 17 meeting. Much to my surprise, the Web site indicates the meeting was open. A school official had led me to believe otherwise.
