Deer-gun season is almost here
Seneca County hunters are reminded they can take two deer again this year during deer season, which runs through Feb. 7. Deer-gun season, the most popular, runs Nov. 30-Dec. 6, with a second weekend Dec. 19-20. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife anticipates 115,000-125,000 deer will be harvested during the nine-day season. About 420,000 hunters are expected to participate, including many out-of-state hunters. The pre-season deer population estimate was 650,000 white-tails. Deer can be hunted with a legal muzzleloader, handgun or shotgun from a half-hour before sunrise to sunset. According to the Division of Wildlife, Ohio ranks eighth nationally in annual hunting-related sales and 10th in the number of jobs associated with the hunting-related industry. Each year, hunting has an economic impact of $859 million in Ohio through the sale of equipment, fuel, food, lodging and similar supplies. The state is divided into three deer hunting zones.
