Designers Unlimited has added spa services on its second floor.

The newest addition to the salon, 500 W. Perry St., was envisioned when owner Shelly Bogner spent time at a day at a Pennsylvania spa.

"The longer I sat there, I thought to myself, I need this," she said.

Renovation of the second floor began in October and involved removing the tanning bed, opening it up and creating two treatment rooms for massage and European and Repechage four-layer facials and the relaxation room. The facial system is a pharmaceutical-grade product made from natural ingredients.

The relaxation room, where clients wait for treatments, features two couches, a lighted fountain, a zen sand garden and soothing music, Bogner said. The area is designed to accommodate up to eight clients and offers nail service. Bogner said bridal parties use it, bringing in food and drinks.

The room also is used for couples massage - the room is large enough to position two treatment beds side by side.

Bogner is certified in massage, and gets help from Joyce Lynch, a licensed massage therapist.

Upper body massage is offered for $1 a minute with a 20-minute minimum. The spa package is $99 and which includes pedicure, facial and 30-minute massage.

"It's definitely worth the money and the most relaxing massage I've ever had," said recent client Jeanie Smith.

Designers Unlimited offers "Men's Day" once a month when men can get rid of unwanted ear, nostril and eyebrow hair with no women nearby.

The salon recently was certified in the "Look Good, Feel Better" program through the American Cancer Society, a program designed to help cancer patients.

The salon also continues to offer a full range of styling and color services and hair care products.

Designers Unlimited posts specials on its Facebook page, and offers specials to "fans."
