Lester and Velma Cleland of New Riegel are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary May 19, 2011. They were married at Union United Church of Christ, Bascom, where they still are active members.
Lester and the former Velma Stone met at General Electric, Tiffin. Velma stayed home to raise their children and help Lester on the farm. Lester later retired as a security guard at American Standard.
They are parents of four children, Carol Cleland of Fostoria, Daniel (Carolyn Pennington) Cleland of McCutchenville, Cynthia (Gregory) Hughes of Alvada and Douglas Cleland, who is deceased. They have eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
