Mohawk anticipates effective rating

SYCAMORE - As local report card data gradually is released to school administrators from Ohio Department of Education, Superintendent Ken Ratliff said Monday night he is optimistic Mohawk School District is to have the same number of indicators as last year.

"I'm fairly confident we will have growth and that we are making progress toward meeting state standards," Ratliff told board members.

In other news, when the meeting opened for public participation, residents Greg and Christy Williams and their daughter Katie, a student at Mohawk High School, requested Katie be allowed to attend North Central Academy and Mohawk High School during the 2011-12 school year.

Ratliff said he wasn't offended by the request but he said charter schools are competing with public schools.

In other business, the implementation of new nutritional requirements was discussed and the board approved an increase in price for school lunches for the 2011-12 school year.

Reduced-price lunches are to remain at $.40 and reduced-price breakfast are to remain at $.30.

Other prices include:

7-12 - $2.50.

Breakfast - $1.25.

Adult - $2.75.

Student milk - $.35.

Adult milk - $.35.

In other matters, the board:

Approved minutes from the regular May 23 meeting.

Approved financial reports for May.

Accepted the resignation of bus driver Sylvia Bell.

Approved the Mohawk Community Library budget for the fiscal year 2011.

Approved the elementary handbook for the 2011-12 school year.

Approved the final appropriations for the 2010-11 school year.

Approved the permanent appropriation resolution for the 2011-12 school year.

Approved the bid for a school bus from Truck Sales at a total cost of $72,545.

Accepted a quote from Trident for liability and property insurance coverage at a cost of $25, 990.

Approved participation in the Healthier Ohio School Challenge Team Nutrition Grant for the 2011-12 school year and hired dietician and food service consultant Maureen Faron as coordinator at an hourly rate of $65 (to be paid through the grant).

Established an elementary cross country program to begin with the 2011-12 school year and approved Amanda Baker as an unpaid coach for the program.

Issued a supplemental contract to Wayne George for junior high Students Agains Drunk Driving adviser.

Approved extended day contracts for the 2011-12 school year to Erik Baker, Karen Dininger, Kathy Green, Angie McGinnis, Michelle Snay, David Trusty and Lisa Zellner.

Approved Tonya Trusty and Nelle Nutter as elementary summer school tutors.

Eliminated early release days for the 2011-12 school year.

Approved a charge of $35 for workbook and supply fees for grades K-8.
