USPS considers closing 2 area offices

July 28, 2011
Staff and Wire reports , The Advertiser-Tribune

COLUMBUS - More than 100 Ohio post offices are among those being considered for closure by the U.S. Postal Service. Post offices in Flat Rock and Burgoon are on that list.

The financially-troubled agency announced Tuesday it will study close to 3,700 local offices, branches and stations around the nation for possible closing. Some could be replaced outlets offering mail services in local stores, libraries or government offices.

The 120 Ohio postal facilities to be reviewed include 11 in the city of Cleveland, six each in Columbus and Dayton, five in Toledo, three in Akron and one in Cincinnati.

Coming under review doesn't necessarily mean a post office will close. Final decisions could take several months.

The Postal Service lost $8 billion last year.
