Harmony UMC to have lawn fete

Harmony United Methodist Church, at the corner of CR 6 and CR 19, is to have a lawn fete Aug. 6 with serving at 5 p.m. The menu includes homemade noodles, pies, cakes, pulled pork, chicken, bratwurst sandwiches and Toft's ice cream.

St. Paul's UMC hosting event

RISINGSUN - St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Risingsun, is to host its annual ice cream social 4-7 p.m. Thursday. It is to feature homemade vanilla and butter pecan ice cream.

Menu items also are to include homemade chicken noodle soup, chicken, sloppy joes, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, pie, cake, ice cream and a beverage.

All proceeds from the social are to be used for a new church roof.

Shrine to have cook-out

BELLEVUE -Sorrowful Mother Shrine is to have its first summer cook-out 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 14. The menu includes grilled bratwurst and Italian sausage, fresh fruit, baked beans, salads, corn on the cob and fresh vegetables. There is to be entertainment for children. Shrine to have Novena

Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation is to begin its annual Novena, nine days of prayer, in celebration of the Virgin Mary's assumption into heaven, Aug. 6-14.

The celebration is always the largest event of the year for the shrine. Parishioners and pilgrims from all over visit the shrine to seek peace, to pray together and to find consolation in their lives and the lives of those in need.

Each weekday evening and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the Novena preacher is to speak.

Our Lady of Consolation is to feature the Rev. John Raphael Hadnagy, OFM Conv., previous rector of the shrine, as the Novena preacher this year.
