ALLENDALE, Mich. - After Tiffin University's fifth straight loss, a 70-7 defeat at Grand Valley State, first-year Dragons coach Gary Goff had a message for his team.
"Remember that score right there," Goff said. "We're playing a lot of young guys and they won't be young forever, we'll get our day."
Grand Valley State quarterback Heath Parling threw for five touchdowns and 298 yards, and the Lakers (2-3, 1-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) scored three touchdowns in each of the first two quarters and never looked back.
"It's very frustrating, nobody knows how hard this team works," Goff said of the Dragons. "(The Lakers are) bigger, stronger and faster, and it showed."
Tiffin quarterback James Capello completed 6 of 12 passes for 40 yards before being knocked out of the game with an injury. Goff said he didn't know much about the injury after the game. Dan Pitts came in and completed 12 of 23 passes for 86 yards. One of the completions went for the only Dragons' TD, a 19-yard strike to Obadiah Dykes with 8:53 to go in the game.
Goff said Pitts did OK in relief.
"I think he did pretty good for the first time getting thrown into action," he said. "I was pleased with Dan."
