COLUMBUS - Young hunters in Seneca County harvested 71 deer during the eighth annual youth deer-gun season last weekend, according to Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
The total was a decrease from 2010's 104 deer.
Among other area counties, Crawford youth saw an increase in deer harvested, from 59 last year to 70 this year, and Wyandot numbers increased from 87 to 92. Hancock County young hunters took 52 deer this year, compared to 83 in 2010. In Huron County, numbers were down slightly from 99 to 92, as were Sandusky County, 25 (33), and Wood County, 41 (55).
Statewide, hunters age 17 and younger harvested 8,681 deer during the special two-day season, compared to 8,445 last year.
