Trout fishing lottery deadline coming Jan. 31

COLUMBUS - Controlled trout-fishing on Cold Creek, one of Ohio's most unique streams, awaits fishing enthusiasts who enter a lottery conducted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

A half-mile section of the creek, at the Castalia State Fish Hatchery in Erie County, will be open to a limited number of anglers on selected dates April 2 through Nov. 2 next year.

Anglers interested in fishing the stream must apply online and pay a non-refundable $3 application fee before Jan. 31 to be eligible for the random drawing.

Only one application is allowed per person. Anglers age 16 and older must hold a valid fishing license in order to apply.

Two seasons are offered. Adults and teens 16 and older fish April 2-June15 and Aug. 20-Nov. 2. A second season is planned for youth ages 15 and younger June 18-Aug. 17. Individuals selected to participate in either season will be allowed to bring two adults ages 16 and older and three youths ages 15 and younger, but no more than six people total.
