Learn more about mental illness in 2012

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties is reminding the public of ongoing free educational programs:

A NAMI Family Support group meets 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at Pontifex, 416 W. State St., Fremont. The group supports family, friends and caregivers of people with mental illness. Meetings are the second Wednesday of the month in Fremont.

A NAMI Family Support group also is to meet 10-11:30 a.m. Jan. 21 at Tiffin Developmental Center, Administration Building, Conference Room 1, 600 N. River Rd., Tiffin. The Tiffin group meets the third Saturday of the month.

NAMI depression/bipolar support group is to meet 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, 77 Jefferson St., Tiffin. The group supports people living with depression or bipolar disorder while maintaining an active life.

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group for people living with mental illness meets 2-3:30 p.m. each Monday at Pontifex, 416 W. State St., Fremont. The group helps people learn from one another's experiences, share coping strategies and offer encouragement and understanding. The group is peer-facilitated and provides an ongoing opportunity to discuss the challenges of living with mental illness and techniques for maintaining wellness.
