The Michael Shirtz Quartet, based at Terra State Community College, is a jazz ensemble that plays traditional jazz with a blend of contemporary, folk and gospel. Influenced by Dave Brubeck and Andre Previn, the quartet is to perform in two upcoming concerts.
The next installment of the Jazz @ Eight series is to present "A Tribute to the Great American Songbook with Mark Gridley" at 8 p.m. Friday at Sandusky State Theatre.
Jazz historian and flutist Gridley is to join the Michael Shirtz Quartet and saxophonist Brian Lang in an evening of tunes by George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter and music of the stage.

The evening includes two 50-minute sets, cash bar and light refreshments. Tickets are $12.
Enjoy a night out with your valentine as The Michael Shirtz Quartet presents "The Music of Cole Porter and More" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in the recital hall in Building D at Terra.
Proceeds from this event are to go to the Terra Choral Society to support its trip to Washington, D.C.
The Choral Society is to perform in the fifth annual National Memorial Day Choral Festival in the Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets for the Porter concert are $10, which includes beverages and light snacks.
