Tiffin Art Guild taps photo winners

A reception Saturday evening at Tiffin Art Guild honored the winners of its 2012 Photo Prize. Gallery curator Jon Adams said every entrant had at least one picture accepted for the show.

Best of show honors and $150 went to "Frosted Aspens" by James Nimz, who also received first prize of $75 in the color category for "Tempest Looming."

In the black and white category, Ken McFarlan took first place ($75) for "Tempus Warpus."

First place awards of $50 went to:

"The Met Building" by Becky Swora, pictorial category.

"Winter's Paintbrush" by Karin Graeff, landscape and architecture category.

Paid registrations are being accepted for art classes in February and March. They include:

Winter sunset in oil, Feb. 22, noon-4 p.m. Instructor Carol Hoffman; members $25, non-members $35.

Intermediate oil class, Feb. 28, noon-4 p.m. Instructor Carol Hoffman; members $25, non-members $35.

Beginning drawing and shading for students grades 2-5, March 3, 10 a.m.-noon. Instructor Martin McFerren; members $5, non-members $10.

Acrylic landscape, March 8, noon-4 p.m. Instructor Carol Hoffman; members $25, non-members $35.

Intermediate drawing for ages 12 and up, March 13, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Instructor Martin McFerren; members $10, non-members $20.

Intermediate acrylic chickadees, March 21, noon-4 p.m. Instructor Carol Hoffman; members $25, non-members $35.

"On the Hunt" by Jonathon Bird, general interest category.

"Wild Air" by Kaitlyn Jo Smith, portrait category.

Jim Wilson and Sean Herron received honorable mentions of $25 each for their respective photographs, "Girl Talk" and "Style Proz (Chicago)."

Gil Gonzalez of Fremont, a photographer and instructor at Terra State Community College, served as judge.

The photo exhibition is to remain on view in the TAG Gallery, 178 S. Washington St., Tiffin, through March 3.

Regular hours at the gallery are noon-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free.

Immediately following the photo show, Adams is to stage a one-man show beginning with an open house at 3 p.m. March 4.

His exhibit, "In Good Taste," is to be in place for two weeks, along with work by other TAG members.
