The long-rumored sale of Tiffin Mall apparently is becoming a reality. Typically, the sale of a business causes a community to hold its collective breath, as residents brace to learn the fate of the enterprise.
Considering the business in this case is a 195,000-square-foot enclosed shopping mall, it's not going to be relocated. Plus, the new owner is Tiffin Mall Realty Management LLC.
That leaves redevelopment, or renewed development, as possibilities for the commercial property. Either option would hold promise for our community.
While an original anchor store remains, along with a few other retail operations, there is much potential for commercial growth at the mall.
Unfortunately, one tenant is to leave soon. PCCW Teleservices has announced it is to cease local work March 20, resulting in the loss of 120 jobs. Because the operation functioned as a primary industry, bringing dollars into the local economy from outside, the economic impact is magnified.
But the change in mall ownership offers reason for optimism, and we hope the switch heralds renewed interest in commercial development of the property.
