Board agrees on fair theme

The 2012 Seneca County fair theme is "170 years and Going Strong!" Agricultural Society members chose this theme for fair week running from July 22-29.

Members discussed milkshake stand renovation with Linda Piper. She said she has donations of $4,000 and a North Central Electric Co-Operative People's Fund grant has been applied for another $2,000. Board members approved beginning work, which is to be a 14-foot by 42-foot area with a porch added to the inside of the education building. Completion is expected before the fair.

Camping for motorcyclists escorting the traveling Vietnam Wall to Tiffin July 11 was discussed. Camping fees with electric and water use were set plus costs for parking cycles.

Saturday night entertainment during the fair will be a demolition derby. The board approved increasing the entry fees for participants, while grandstand entry is to be $5 and the infield $10.

Commemorative baskets are for sale from any board member for $45 and should be available by May.

The first flea market of the season is May 5-6.

In other action, the board:

Approved the treasurer's report.

Increased camping fees for fair week to $175, including a parking pass.

Heard the board profited $6,000 from the gun show.

Approved ordering 25 golf carts for fair week use.

Approved the 2013 flea market dates.

Are to install a plaque noting donors for the new livestock pavilion.

Determined the goat show will be two days. Goats are to be weighed in May 5.

Learned Parker Bros. are painting the super barn.

Increased fees for flat rate concession contracts.

Discussed and approved chips for goats and tattoos if the state approves.

The Agricultural Society is to meet at 7:30 p.m. April 10.
