FOSTORIA - Pantry Plus of Seneca County's Fostoria office now is an official authorized provider for American Red Cross and has taken charge of the annual Summer Fostoria "Learn-To-Swim" program.
Pantry Plus Coordinator John Sherer said swimming classes are being offered free as a community service.
Swim classes for youth ages 6 months and older have been secheduled for various levels of ability. Three classes with three one-week sessions of each class are to be offered.
The first week-long session runs July 2-6. The second is July 9-13 and the third is July 16-20. Each of the daily classes is 45 minutes long. Children can attend either the 10:30-11:15 a.m. or the 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. class.
All classes are to be held at Fostoria City Pool.
"We believe it's important that all youth have the opportunity to learn basic water safety and enjoy the fun of swimming with their friends. Thanks to the support of our volunteers and donors, we can offer the classes at no charge, and we encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity for their children," Sherer said.
Registration forms have been distributed to students grades K-6 in the Fostoria school system. Once parents have reviewed the information, the registration forms should be returned to the Pantry Plus office at 115 S. Main St., Fostoria.
Children must be registered prior to taking the classes. If the Pantry Plus office is closed, place forms in the drop box next to the front door.
Volunteers ages 11 and older also are needed to help with the classes. Students are to receive service hours for their volunteer work.
