Sprint-distance triathlon coming

June 22, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

P.T. Services Rehabilitation plans to celebrate 40 years of service by hosting a sprint-distance triathlon July 21.

The White Star PT Services Triathlon is to be at White Star Park Quarry, Gibsonburg, and consist of a 750-yard swim, a 12.4-mile (20K) bike ride and a 3.1-mile (5K) flat trail run. Individuals, as well as relay teams of 2-3 people, can compete, and the race can be completed in about two hours or less.

With distances shorter than an event such as the Ironman race, a sprint-distance triathlon is a good option for beginners and veteran competitors. The swim portion is to be in the White Star Quarry. Also, swimmers are to have alternating swim starts, with competitors entering the water two at a time every 10-15 seconds, to avoid a massive run on the water.

The running course at White Star Quarry Park is to be on well-maintained wooded trails, and bikers are to compete on country roads with well-maintained crossroads.

PT Services plans to help participants train for the event. Clinics are to offer training programs to help competitors prepare.

Call P.T Services at (419) 447-7203 for details.
