There are fewer than a dozen days until the start of the 170th Seneca County Fair. Agricultural Society board members met Tuesday night to finalize plans for the July 22-29 festivities.

The opening ceremony is at 8 a.m. July 23 near the fairgrounds front gate. New Riegel's Jacket Co. is to entertain and the Firelands Military Vehicle Group is to set off a cannon marking the official opening.

Some work remains on the milkshake stand. Trimming the windows and adding a metal roof to the porch still need to be completed. The stand has moved inside the educational building.

Vice President Kenny Frankart reported the Ottawa, Seneca, Sandusky Joint Solid Waste District has contacted the fair board asking the grounds be used as a recycling site. No action was taken Tuesday.

Zelda Oakleaf announced a baton group would perform at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday during fair week.

In other action, the board:

Approved the treasurer's report. All accounts contained $53,094.37 as of June 30 and the loan balance is $92,953.67 plus interest.

Approved trimming several trees on the fairgrounds.

Noted the entry fee for two-person corn hole teams is $20.

Determined anyone entering the fairgrounds on a golf cart must register at the fair office and purchase a permit.

Discussed various light replacement and moving the show ring.

Approved James Smith checking the computer system in advance of fair week.

Heard the Junior Fair Foundation donated another $1,000 for the milkshake stand renovation.

Heard the junior fair members will be assembling booths and painting next week.

Heard OSU Extension agent Ann Golden report judging is in progress. She also noted 14 youth are not meeting quality assurance standards and will not be allowed to exhibit animals at the fair.

The agricultural society next meets 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14.
