On watch

August 4, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

During this administration, I have watched the erosion of our Constitution by the most corrupt leadership this nation has ever seen.

Our military is being trampled on by our commander in chief in ways that boggle the mind of, nearly to the man, service members. All for advancing unwise decisions made by this administration simply to appease some minority voting group.

For those of us who have served or are now serving have taken an oath of enlistment, at least once, are having a hard time with this administration. The oath contains several key passages, one being "support and defend the Constitution of the United States," another being "following orders of the commander in chief." As you, can see, there is a problem there. While Obama has not glaringly broken the Constitution, he sure has bent it, to say the least.

Now we have the Uniform Code of Military Justice; this has been the basis for military conduct and justice since 1949. It is not a complex document to read or understand. A civilian could read and understand it without a lawyer's interpretation, it simply details rights and responsibilities. Also, it outlines consequences for not adhering to these regulations.

Well, this administration has shredded the UCMJ - only in certain areas, however, all for political gain.

One fine example is on homosexuality. It is a big no-no in the UCMJ, but with a stroke of a pen Obama changed that. Yes, there have been homosexuals in the military, but before it was kept well hidden, as it should be.

Contrary to the liberal college crowd thinking, it kills morale. I rode submarines for years, this is a very stressful environment to say the least, and the best way to describe a boat is "take six of your best friends and live inside a pick-up camper for six weeks without leaving its confines." Oh, forgot to add in the stress that this camper is underwater and could (and will) have something go wrong at any second with you only having seconds to respond or die. The Navy is making it bad enough now by putting women on subs, trying to be politically correct; very problematic, but politically correct, but that is a different story altogether.

A second is opening Pandora's box on political activism; the military must let openly gay members participate in uniform in gay political assemblies. At the same time, others will be brought up on charges if they make any statements against the administration's policies. If a military member showed up to a Tea Party event in uniform, there would be no question to the results. Just several months back, a Marine voiced his opinions against Obama's policies and was discharged without benefits ASAP under the UCMJ.

So you can clearly see, now our guideline for military conduct, the UCMJ, really means nothing except what the current administration says it means.

Food for thought, you liberals out there, it clearly states the U.S. military cannot be employed against U.S. citizens. Now that you liberals are dancing in joy that you won your battle on the UCMJ limitations, just remember about where it can lead - cannot be employed against citizens comes to mind. Just be careful for what you wish for.
