A Bloomville woman was taken by Life Flight to a Toledo hospital after being thrown from a four-wheeler in Eden Township Sunday afternoon.

Trooper Mark Sorg of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Joyce E. Ziegler, 56, was driving a 2008 Arctic Cat 366 south on TR 171 when a dog ran in front of her.

The vehicle struck the dog and overturned, and she was thrown from it. The vehicle went off the left side of the road, south of TR 44, he said.

Ziegler was taken to Mercy Tiffin Hospital by Bloomville EMS and then was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center by Life Flight. She was in fair condition Sunday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Ziegler was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to a release from State Highway Patrol.

Personnel from Bloomville fire and EMS responded to the accident, which was reported around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the release.

Sorg said Ziegler had not been cited as of Sunday afternoon, and no one located the dog.
