CRP may be eligible for hay
Seneca County Farm Service Agency has announced that a limited number of acres enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program may be eligible for emergency haying and grazing provisions, which are being implemented due to the 2012 drought.
Not all practices enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program are eligible and applications must be made by Aug. 31.
Producers who request to participate in the emergency provisions must apply at the FSA office prior to haying or allowing animals to graze. A 10 percent payment reduction will be assessed on the CRP annual rental payment in October for farmers who participate in the provision.
In addition, only 50 percent of CRP acreage may be hayed and only one cutting is eligible.
Practices eligible include warm- and cool-season grass seeding and wildlife habitat.
Filter strips and quail buffers are not eligible.
Interested producers must contact FSA. Failure to apply before land use will result in the loss of program benefits and liquidated damages.
For more information, call (419) 447-7071, ext. 2, or visit www.fsa.usda.gov/pas.
FSA offering loan provisions
USDA's Farm Service Agency reminds producers of their options to obtain a marketing assistance loan for 2012 crop corn and soybeans. For the 2012 crop year, corn and soybean loan rates are $1.92 and $5.11 per bushel.
The loan program provides producers with cash flow at a set interest rate while the crop is in storage on the farm or at a local elevator. The rate is 1.25 percent.
Market assistance loans support producers in obtaining cash flow while crops remain in storage and are marketed at a future date. Producers interested in obtaining a nine-month loan on stored commodities must apply by visiting the local FSA office.
Commodities harvested and stored on the farm or at an approved elevator are eligible if the producer maintains beneficial interest in the crop which includes risk, title and control of the commodity. Commodities are not eligible if the commodity is stored in a wagon or trailer.
Producers requesting a loan have the option to repay the money at the lower of the posted county price or principal plus interest. Producers with farm stored commodity loans must contact FSA to obtain permission before moving or delivering any commodity under loan.
For more information, call (419) 447-7071, ext. 2, or visit www.fsa.usda.gov/pas.
Reminder to file NAP loss
With the effects of the 2012 drought continuing, producers enrolled in the Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program are reminded of the requirements to notify Seneca County Farm Service Agency if crops have been negatively impacted by weather-related disaster conditions.
The NAP program provides payments to producers for covered crops when losses are in excess of 50 percent of established production history or normal yield. Crops covered by NAP are limited to crops for which multi-peril crop insurance is not available such as hay and a variety of fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, sweet corn, pumpkins, squash and fresh market tomatoes.
Corn, soybeans and wheat are not eligible NAP crops in Seneca County.
Producers that purchased NAP coverage are required to notify FSA within 15 days of crop damage to allow for an inspection. To report crop damage in a timely manner, the producer must visit the office and file a form within 15 days of the disaster event.
For more information, call (419) 447-7071, ext. 2, or visit www.fsa.usda.gov/pas.
