Talking to people around the area, I encounter so many who vehemently oppose the policies of the president and the current administration, even to the point of profanity. Yet, when I mention attending a meeting or a rally, or displaying a bumper sticker or spreading the message, some of the most vocal withdraw and make excuses about having to consider their businesses or their liberal customers, etc. Many, however, agree that unless we stand together and speak out, there will be no businesses and no country as we know it.
It's heartening to see letters to the editor from citizens who openly weigh in on the current situation our nation faces. More people need to come out and express their views; you'll be surprised how many others share your feelings. Don't be a "closet" conservative!
Samuel Adams, my favorite founding father, chastened some of his fellow patriots thus: "If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your consul nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, may your chains set lightly upon you and may prosperity forget that ye were our countrymen!"
Obama is the first president in history to campaign against capitalism, believing success should be punished by taxes, regulation and redistribution of wealth. He consistently has worked to build a coalition of radical elements to insure his re-election instead of working to restore the economy. He touts the bailout of the auto industry when it was simply a bailout of the union (for their political donations) and a (cheating) of the shareholders. His "universal health care" is only for the little people; all government workers and favored unions and industries are granted waivers and exemptions. His "green energy" has gone overseas or bankrupt. The oil we could have had from the Keystone pipeline is going to China and our electric bills have doubled from his shutdown of coal-fired power plants to appease environmentalists, and our coal is being shipped to China, also. With corn more than $8 per bushel, ethanol is still required by law in our gas, which is driving up our food prices, as well as the cost of fuel. How much more "change" can we take?
The other day I saw a picture of a billboard near Longview, Texas, that sums it all up. It said simply, vote for the American. Good advice!
