Mohawk opens season on strong note

UPPER SANDUSKY - The defending regional champion Mohawk Warriors opened up their season with a win over Upper Sandusky 25-20, 25-18, 25-15.

Sarah Parker and Kasey Adelsperger each paced the Warriors with 13 kills. Parker added 11 digs, three blocks and two aces. Julie Adelsperger added five kills and a pair of aces. Aubrie Flood chipped in four kills.

"This was a good early test for us," Mohawk coach Eric Hoover said. "Upper is a good young team and I was glad to see us step up defensively to keep their hitters from controlling the match."

Also for Mohawk (1-0), Ashley Parker had 32 assists and seven digs. Lynsey Trusty had 16 digs.

Taylor Graboski paced Upper Sandusky with nine kills. Allison Snyder had 17 assists while Jenna Holly had 12 digs.

TC bounces back against H-L

BASCOM - The only game that wasn't close was won by Hopewell-Loudon, but Columbian didn't seem to mind.

The Tornadoes bounced back from a 25-11 thumping in the fourth game Saturday to beat H-L 15-12 in the finale to capture a five-set season-opening victory.

Columbian won the first game 25-23 and the third 25-21, but the Chieftains took the second 25-22 before seeming to gain momentum in the fourth game.

Jordan Huffman tossed up 20 assists for TC and Tessa Fuhrer added 18, while Alyssa Price and Megan Murphy each hammered 10 kills.

Blue Devils blast Bucyrus

CAREY - Carey opened up its season in impressive fashion with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-10 win over Bucyrus.

Hannah Tong slammed 13 kills and recorded 16 blocks, one shy of the school record she set last season. She also served up a team-leading three aces.

Also for Carey (1-0), Logan Johnson and Shelby Seifert each added three kills. Seifert and Sydney Wentling each had five blocks. Wentling dished out 25 assists.

Taylor Fletcher led with 10 digs, Makenzie Wentling added nine.

Blue Jackets ice Polar Bears

CASTALIA - It was successful season opener for New Riegel (1-0) as the Blue Jackets took down Margaretta in three games, 25-14, 25-17, 25-16.

Kara Scherger led the way with 10 kills and three aces. Lauren Ladd slammed down nine kills while Taylor Arbogast added six kills to go along with 13 figs and three aces.

Cassandra Acree set them up, dishing out 23 assists. She also added 12 digs. Brittany Gillig had 16 digs and served up five aces.

Seneca East drops a pair

WILLARD - Seneca East dropped a pair of matches at a tri-match with Willard and New London. The Tigers fell to Willard 25-15, 25-23, and to New London 25-15, 25-21.

On the day, Kristen Bowerman had eight kills for Seneca East (0-2). Cameil Ruffing added six kills, Racheul Bauman five and Ashton Danile four.

Samantha Miller led with 11 assists and Bauman added nine.
