Attica advances with cruiser purchases

ATTICA - Attica Police Chief Keith Turner had the department's new 2013 Ford Interceptor SUV on display for council members to examine Thursday night. The cruiser has been in service for a week and members heard the second reading of the resolution approving its purchase along with the added equipment and striping.

Turner also has located a second cruiser for the village. A 2008 Ford Crown Victoria that has served as a demonstration model for available equipment to law enforcement officials may be purchased for $6,000. Council authorized the purchase and outfitting costs not to exceed $7,000 after the vehicle passes

inspection.

Property owner Dwight Everhart approached council regarding a tenant's outstanding utility bills. All utilities had previously been disconnected leaving the owner with a $443.77 bill that is due by Sept. 10. He asked council to consider forgiving some service fees totaling $48.49. Members said they would be unable to do that, but recommended the water service be in the landowner's name.

Councilman Ben Stockmaster said the Sons of the Legion softball tournament today and Saturday at Myers Park has eight teams participating. The first game starts at 8 a.m. both days. A beer garden and grilled fare will be available. Mike Risner is to perfrom this evening and DJ Bubba Tanner is to perform Saturday night.

Jeff Painter said a farmers market is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Honey Creek Park.

Village Administrator Greg Martin reported rebuilding a creek pump and working at the reservoirs. He said his report has been submitted on atrizine levels in the village water to participate in the class action suit against Syngeta.

Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs said the total of funds was $756,403.20. The village received its second half real estate settlements, she said. She also distributed alternative electrical supplier rates but is to further investigate other offers.

The meeting went into executive session to discuss land acquisition.

In other action,

council:

Adopted the emergency resolution, authorizing the mayor to submit an application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission state capital improvements program for grant funding regarding the water treatment plant.

Approved Medical Mutual for employee health insurance.

Heard recycling is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday with Venice Township in charge.

Heard the first reading of the amended certificate of estimated revenues.

Council meets next at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13.
