Chieftains can’t find a win at Sidney Lehman

SIDNEY - Hopewell-Loudon attended the Sidney Lehman Catholic tournament, known for being a very difficult small school tournament. The result ended with the Chieftains losing three straight matches.

First, Hopewell-Loudon (0-5) went against Adena, falling 25-19, 22-25, 25-14.

Courtney Burns led the way with 10 kills, 17 digs, four aces and two blocks. Racquel Hossler dished out 23 assists and aced twice.

Hopewell-Loudon then went against host Sidney Lehman, falling 25-15, 25-12.

Burns tallied five kills, two digs and two blocks.

In the final match, Hopewell-Loudon started off strong but couldn't combat Minster in a 21-25, 25-12, 25-16 loss.

Burns had a triple-double in the final game, registering 10 kills, 10 assists and 10 digs. She also had four solo blocks. Logan Frank pounded 10 kills and recorded 15 digs while Hossler tossed up 10 assists and had four aces.

Blue Jackets roll on

NORTH ROBINSON - Three New Riegel players turned in double-doubles Saturday in a 25-10, 19-25, 25-13, 25-15 win over Colonel Crawford.

Lauren Ladd keyed the Blue Jackets (4-0) with 16 kills and 12 digs, Kara Scherger (2 aces) had 15 kills and 10 digs and Taylor Arbogast tallied 12 kills and 17 digs.

Casandra Acree backed them with 35 assists and Morgan Noftz had 13 digs and five assists.

Buckettes can't dethrone St. Henry

CELINA - Buckeye Central dropped one three-game match and took another Saturday as part of a 2-1 day at the Celina Invitational.

The Buckettes (3-2) sandwiched wins of 25-20, 25-22 over Versailles and 25-19, 18-25, 25-19 over Toledo Whitmer around a 15-25, 25-22, 25-23 loss to defending state champ St. Henry.

Sammi Marcum's 43 kills and 11 digs sparked Buckeye Central, as did Maddie Williams' 24 kills and 26 digs.

Kilee Kimmel turned in 59 assists and 11 digs, Emily Weithman had 39 assists and eight digs and Brooke Karl came up with 30 digs for the Buckettes.

Tigers go 1-2

GALION - Seneca East went 1-2 Saturday, falling 25-21, 25-9 to Galion and 25-13, 25-18 to Western Reserve, but beating Mansfield Christian 25-20, 25-23.

Kristen Bowerman led the Tigers (1-4) with 10 kills and six blocks, and Ashton Daniel turned in 10 kills, six digs and three aces.

Cameil Ruffing (2 blocks) slammed nine kills, Emily Depinet had eight kills, four aces and four digs, Holly Bordner added seven digs and Alison Heacht (2 aces) had three digs. Sam Miller (2 blocks) tossed up 15 assists and Rachel Bauman (2 kills) handed out 13.

Stockaders lose three

ST. MARYS - Old Fort suffered three losses Saturday, falling 25-20, 21-25, 25-17 to Spencerville, 25-17, 25-16 to Parkway and 25-13, 25-19 to St. Marys Memorial.

Kristin Bender (2 aces) led the Old Fort charge with 28 kills and 21 digs, and Krista Ward (2 kills) had 24 assists and 19 digs.

Sara Bell chipped in 20 assists and seven digs, Sammy Miller (2 aces) came up with 18 digs), Shelby Bilger chipped in 12 digs and four aces, Sam Hartsel slammed eight kills and Rebekah Gippert tallied five kills and five digs.
