Check facts before voting

September 17, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

Since we can't avoid the political ads (unfortunately we are a swing state), I would ask everyone to remember one thing. These ads are being financed by some very rich people - people (and corporations) that, even if their taxes are increased, they will make sure their donations are enough to balance it out. The person living from paycheck to paycheck doesn't have that option. They are trying to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads! You can bet none of the politicians you are listening to are doing that.

Whichever party you support, I challenge you to take time to check out the facts. Both parties are guilty of distorting them. Factcheck.org is a non-partisan website that provides that service. Do not trust the political party websites. Please, don't let the politicians spoon feed you all the crap they hand out. Don't just listen to sound bites and read headlines. Make a good example for your children and grandchildren, do the research and make an informed decision.

Remember, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain. Personally, I think not voting is snubbing your nose at all the veterans who have given their time and often their lives to assure you of that freedom. Don't thumb your nose at our vets or our country, get educated and vote!

Thank you

Jodee Paxton,
