KANSAS - Double-doubles by Courtney Burns and Racquel Hossler powered Hopewell-Loudon to a three-game victory over Lakota, 25-16, 25-16, 25-8.
Burns lined 15 kills and dished out 10 assists. Hossler also had 10 assists, and backed it up on the defensive end with 10 digs. Logan Frank chipped in seven kills and 10 digs.
Also for H-L (2-2, 2-9 MAL) Shelbi Sauber had 11 digs and five aces, Tiana Opp had two blocks and Kassie Shaver led the Chieftain defense with 15 digs.
For Lakota (0-4, 1-9) , Katie Park led with five kills while Aly Hovis served five aces. Alaina Bickford led defensively with 12 digs, Stephanie Miller had seven assists and six digs, and Destiny Long-Meyer had two kills and two blocks.
Blue Jackets still unbeaten
NEW RIEGEL - The reigning Midland Athletic League champion is off to a solid start in defending its title. New Riegel improved to 12-0, 4-0 in the Midland Athletic League with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 win over Carey.
Taylor Arbogast slammed a team-high 13 kills for the Blue Jackets. Lauren Ladd and Kara Scherger each added eight. Cassandra Acree set them up with 24 assists.
Also for New Riegel, Morgan Noftz had five assists and Alexis Kieffer chipped in three kills.
Hannah Tong paced Carey (7-4, 2-2) with 11 kills and three blocks. Shelby Seifert chipped in four kills. Sydney Wentling dished out 18 assists.
On the defensive end, Logan Johnson had 17 digs, Mackenzie Wentling had 16.
Mohawk slams St. Wendelin
FOSTORIA - Mohawk wasted little time dispatching St. Wendelin, 25-7, 25-13, 25-5. Sarah Parker's 10 kills led the Warriors. Julie and Kasey Adelsperger slammed seven a piece while Aubrie Flood chipped in six.
Ashley Parker dished out 33 assists and Lynsey Trusty led the defense with eight digs.
Ali Mowrey led St. Wendelin (3-7, 0-4) with four kills. Adrienne Emerine paced the defense with 14 digs.
With the win, Mohawk moves to 8-1 and maintains an unblemished conference mark at 4-0, to set up a clash of conference unbeatens when New Riegel travels to Mohawk Thursday.
Calvert hands St. Joe first MAL loss
FREMONT - As would be expected in a game between two Midland Athletic League unbeatens, there was little separation between Calvert and Fremont St. Joe. After five close games, Calvert remained at the top of the league standings while St. Joe suffered its first conference loss. Calvert won in five 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-8.
"This game was a battle of who could stay in system, when our back row held up we were able to control the match," Calvert coach Greg Hendrix said. "I'm very proud of this young group of kids that learned how to battle against a veteran St. Joe team. We needed to learn to push through and found a way to do it tonight."
Kaleigh Hendrix surpassed her own school record with 56 assists in the match. Meridith Lucius pounded 21 kills, while adding 29 digs defensively. Amber Perry had 15 kills and eight blocks while Haley Felter had 14 kills and seven blocks.
Also for Calvert (7-4, 4-0), Jordan Gase had 28 digs, Kelsey Hendrix had 26.
Buckettes stay perfect in NCC
GALION - Buckeye Central coach Bill Bonham has been pleased with his team's physicality. He's been waiting for the mental approach to match it.
It did Tuesday night as the Buckettes spiked Galion, 25-12, 25-23, 25-12, in a cross-division North Central Conference matchup.
"Great team effort for us. I didn't think it would be that easy. The second game we got a little lax," Bonham said.
The defense was particularly solid as Brooke Karl had 21 digs, Kilee Kimmel had 14 and Maddie Williams had 12 as part of a double-double, with 12 kills as well.
Sammi Marcum had 21 kills to pace the Buckettes (12-2, 6-0 NCC) to go along with six digs. Kimmel had 22 assists and three kills while Emily Weithman did two better with 24 assists and five kills.
"Physically we've been able to do what we need do but mentally has been a struggle at times.
Serving tonight, we only missed three serves," Bonham said. "It's a mentality. It's wanting to win and hating to lose and that's the mentality that they are taking right now."
Tigers even up MAL mark
NORTH BALTIMORE - Seneca East evened up its Midland Athletic League mark at 2-2 with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-12 win over North Baltimore. The victorious Tigers used a balanced offensive attack. Kristen Bowerman ld with six kills, Ashton Daniel followed her with five and Rachel Bauman chipped in four. Bauman also had five aces, four assists and three digs.
Also for the Tigers (4-9), Samantha Miller delivered 10 assists to go along with two kills, three aces and six digs. Emily Depinet had three kills and three aces.
Norwalk boots TC
NORWALK - Norwalk overwhelmed Columbian, 25-9, 25-16, 25-12, dropping the Tornadoes to 1-4 in the Northern Ohio League.
Haley Sendelbach pounded 10 kills and two blocks for TC (3-7), and Alyssa Price added 10 digs and four aces.
Upper Sandusky clips Falcons
MOUNT BLANCHARD - It looked pretty easy Tuesday night as Upper Sandusky thumped Riverdale, 25-5, 25-7, 25-10, in North Central Conference action.
"I feel we dominated from the service line, putting Riverdale on its heels," Upper Sandusky coach Matthew McConnaughey said. "Everyone on the court added to our team success tonight. It's great to see enthusiasm, controlled aggression and teamwork for three straight sets."
Taylor Graboski had 15 kills and three blocks. Jessi Holly had 10 kills and 13 digs while sister Jenna Holly had six aces and 13 digs. Kalene Johnson had seven aces and Molly Owens had eight kills and two blocks. Emma Smith had 23 assists and Allison Snyder had 13.
